About Toncoin
Toncoin was originally developed in 2018 as utility and payments token for Telegram messaging service.
This association with Telegram app was quickly abandoned after US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) sued the project alleging it was selling unregistered securities - shares in the Telegram app. Toncoin project has since been developed by team independent of Telegram.
TON token is the native currency of Toncoin blockchain and is used for payments and transaction storage fees. TON can also be staked and used for protocol governance.
Although the Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has endorsed the Toncoin project, Telegram claims they have no connection with it - neither financially nor in terms of technology exchange.
