About Polkadot
Polkadot is a proof-of-stake multi-chain blockchain protocol that enables secure, interoperable transactions across a variety of blockchains. It was developed by the Gavin Wood and Web3 Foundation, with the goal of connecting multiple heterogeneous chains, scalable smart contracts, and distributed applications into one network.
The native token of Polkadot platform is DOT token. It is used for both staking and governance - DOT users can earn staking rewards and vote to influence decisions depending on size of their stake. Staked DOT tokens also serve as incentives for "good behavior" and protect against Sybil attacks.
Polkadot network also introduced something called "bridges" - a construct connecting blockchains and allowing for data transfer. Bridges allow for interoperability with other networks such as Bitcoin or Cardano.
