About Brazilian real
Brazilian real is currency of Brazil, issued by the Central Bank of Brazil. It was introduced in 1994 as part of broader plan to stabilize Brazilian economy after Brazil had suffered very high inflation and failure of its previous currencies.
Brazilian currency has changed 8 times in the 20st century but modern day Brazilian real has outlived most of its predecessors. While its long-term trend is to depreciate against the US dollar, it has enjoyed brief periods of appreciation and no hyper-inflation.
Brazilian real is subdivided into 100 centavos - 50, 25, 10, 5 and 1 centavo coins. Despite relatively low value compared to US dollar or Euro cents, centavo coins retain circulation of all nominals. The 1 centavo coin, however, is not minted since late 2005.
