About Hong Kong dollar
Hong Kong dollar (abbreviated as "HKD") is currency used in Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong. It is also circulated in Macau, alongside Macanese patacas.
Despite the very limited geographical area of its use, Hong Kong dollar enjoys wide acceptance in currency trade and remains as one of top 10 most traded currencies worldwide.
Hong Kong dollar has unusual issuance policy where three commercial banks (HSBC, Bank of China and Standard Chartered) have license to issue HKD along with the Hong Kong monetary authority itself. Each of these banks has its unique bank note design. Hong Kong dollar coinage and 10 dollar bank note are issued by monetary authority only.
