About New Zealand dollar
New Zealand dollar is national currency of New Zealand. It was introduced relatively recently - in 1967 as a replacement for New Zealand pound.
Like United States and Canadian dollar, New Zealand dollar is also subdivided into 100 cents. Cents are also circulated in coinage form, however, the smallest 5 cent coin was withdrawn in 2006, due to inflation and declining practicality of such small denomination coin.
New Zealand dollar is used as official currency not only within New Zealand but also the Cook Islands, Pitcairn Islands, Niue, Tokelau and even Ross Dependency - a slice of Antarctica claimed by New Zealand.
New Zealand dollar's nickname "kiwi" originates from the kiwi bird depicted on 1 dollar coin.
