About Renminbi
Renminbi (RMB) is the official currency of People's Republic of China. It is commonly referred to as the Chinese yuan (CNY).
The primary unit of Renminbi is yuan. Each yuan is divided into 10 jiao, and each jiao is divided into 10 fen. Combination of jiao and fen fulfil the same function as single 1/100 subdivision unit we see in popular western currencies such as US dollar cents or Euro cents.
As China is one of the largest (arguably the very largest) economies, its currency also enjoys high trading volume and use in settlements and foreign currency reserves of other nation states.
Renminbi is circulated as bank notes and coins. There are also efforts to build a blockchain-based digital yuan.
