About Swedish krona
Swedish krona is the official currency of Kingdom of Sweden. It is issued and regulated by Swedish Central Bank (Sveriges Riksbank). It was introduced in 1876 during the formation of Scandinavian Monetary Union.
Swedish krona is subdivided into 100 öre, however, when paying in cash, prices must be rounded up to nearest krona, as there are no physical ören coins in circulation, and this subunit only serves as means of pricing low value goods which are typically bought in multiples or paid for electronically, as Sweden has one of the highest electronic payments adoption rates in the world.
Swedish krona is the most traded Scandinavian currency and one of the top traded national currencies worldwide. As member of Scandinavian Monetary Union, Swedish krona used to be tied to price of gold and coinage was produced from physical gold and silver. Gold equivalence was abandoned in late 1920s, as the entire world moved away from gold standard during the latter part of 20st century.
