About Tron
Tron is open-source proof-of-stake cryptocurrency with smart contract functionality. It was founded in March 2014 by chinese crypto entrepeneur Justin Sun. The native currency of Tron platform is Tronx (TRX).
In 2014 Tron started out as Ethereum ERC20 token and it took 4 years for Tron developers to build bespoke Tron blockchain. Migration from Ethereum environment to Tron native system commenced in 2018.
Tron is proof of stake (PoS) blockchain. Perhaps the most unique feature is its use of "delegated proof-of-stake" consensus mechanism. This allows TRX holders to use their tokens to vote for representatives who will process the transactions.
As a PoS system, Tron uses very little energy for transaction verification. This makes it far more environmentally sustainable than proof-of-work blockchains such as Bitcoin.
