About Dash
Dash is a digital currency created in 2014 and was formerly known as Darkcoin. A fork of the Bitcoin protocol, it is an open source peer-to-peer cryptocurrency with focus on privacy.
Dash privacy is realized via coin mixing "master nodes". Master nodes are special Dash network nodes that aggregate transactions and obfuscate their origin and destination. Master nodes are somewhat similar to concept of "staking" in currencies like Ethereum, where certain amount of ETH is locked in a transaction validating node and node operator earns small fee from these transactions.
Similar to Zcash, another privacy-focused cryptocurrency that uses zk-SNARK cryptography, Dash privacy is not enabled by default. There are other cryptocurrencies such as Monero that enable transaction obfuscation by default.
