About Zcash
Zcash is a cryptocurrency developed by Zerocoin Electric Coin Company as alternative to cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. Zcash offers greater confidentiality of transactions and user's balances through the use of zero-knowledge cryptography. By using encryption technique called "zk-SNARKS", it enables complete privacy when making and receiving payments.
Zcash has faster block time than Bitcoin - less than 2 minutes instead of 10 minutes. This makes for faster transactions and potentially higher transaction throughput.
Zcash also has different proof-of-work algorithm, called "Scrypt", which, before arrival of specialized Scrypt ASIC miners, made mining more decentralized and Zcash network more censorship resistant.
