Hashgraph is a type of distributed ledger technology (DLT) and cryptocurrency platform created to enable users to achieve fair and secure consensus in a completely distributed network. It stands out from other blockchain networks because it offers a high level of scalability, efficiency, and speed. Unlike many blockchain networks which can slow down significantly if the amount of transactions increase rapidly, Hashgraph infrastructure is designed to handle increasingly high volumes of transactions without any congestion.
Hashgraph is not a traditional blockchain - it leverages "directed acyclic graph" or simply "hashgraph" - data structure first used by IOTA cryptocurrency, which makes it orders of magnitude more energy-efficient and scalable.
Hedera is public implementation of Hashgraph technology, and it was founded by the same people who invented Hashgraph. Dallas based Hedera company that oversees Hedera development is owned by governing council of multiple large global corporations, including Google, Boeing and IBM.
